What Should I Look For When Walking Through Homes

When you go out searching for homes, you need to keep a score card. You will see plenty of homes and eventually you will forget which homes you like and dislike.

Make sure you have a notebook and keep track of each home using the list below (feel free to print this list):

- What is the full address and name of the area?

- Is the exterior of the home brick, Frame, Aluminum, Mixed?

- Is there a front yard or backyard?

- Is the home attached, semi detached or detached?

- What type of parking if any?

- Do you like the floor plan?

- How many bedrooms?

- How many baths?

- Is there a basement? If so, is it finished, semi finished or unfinished?

- Is there adequate space to fit your furniture?

- Is there sufficient storage?

- Are there any major upgrades to bathrooms or kitchens?

- What is the condition of the flooring?

- How old is the roof, the heating system, plumbing, and electrical system?

- Are there any major structural issues?

- Is there anything that needs to be repaired or replaced?

- Is there any transportation, good schools and conveniences

- Are there any other features that the home has or lacks compared to other homes?

You probably didn’t realize how many questions you have to ask yourself about a home. If you’re taking time to see a home you may buy, then you should slow down a little and take it all in until you answer all of the above questions.
